In 2025, homeopathy is no longer viewed as alternative medicine in India, as market growth, policy support, and patient demand position it within integrative healthcare.
Homeopathy is increasingly being integrated into India’s mainstream healthcare system, reflecting a shift toward holistic and preventive medical approaches in 2025.
In India in 2025, homeopathy is no longer positioned on the fringes of healthcare. What was once labelled “alternative medicine” is increasingly recognised as part of an integrative healthcare model, one that combines conventional medicine with evidence-informed traditional and complementary therapies. This shift is driven not by sentiment alone, but by measurable market growth, widespread public adoption, and sustained institutional support.
Padma Shri Dr Mukesh Batra, Founder and Chairman Emeritus, Dr Batra’s® Healthcare, shares insights into this evolving landscape.
Market Momentum Reflects Changing Perceptions
One of the clearest indicators of homeopathy’s growing acceptance is its market performance. According to an April 2025 analysis by Market Research Future (MRFR), the Indian homeopathy market was valued at approximately ₹5,892 crore in 2023. It grew to an estimated ₹7,096 crore in 2024 and is projected to reach ₹17,681 crore by 2035.
Globally, the homeopathy market stood at ₹6.60 lakh crore in 2023 and is expected to expand to ₹15.72 lakh crore by 2029. These figures point to increasing consumer trust and rising investment in homeopathic products across both urban and rural markets.
Deep Demographic Penetration
Homeopathy’s relevance in India extends far beyond economics. Surveys indicate that nearly 10% of Indian households regularly use homeopathic remedies, spanning income groups and geographic regions. India also has one of the world’s largest pools of registered homeopathic practitioners, with over three lakh professionals working across government facilities, private clinics, and voluntary healthcare networks.
This extensive practitioner base ensures accessibility, particularly in areas where conventional healthcare infrastructure may be limited, costly, or overstretched.
Policy Support and Institutional Integration
Government support has played a crucial role in bringing homeopathy into the mainstream. As part of the Ministry of AYUSH which oversees Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy, the system benefits from structured education, research initiatives, and inclusion in public health programmes.
The AYUSH sector’s annual growth rate of over 17% reflects India’s broader policy shift toward preventive, holistic, and integrative healthcare frameworks.
Evolving Patient Expectations
Alongside institutional growth, patient expectations are also changing. Many Indians now seek healthcare approaches that prioritise long-term wellness, prevention, and individualised care, rather than focusing solely on symptom management. Integrative medicine aligns with this outlook, positioning homeopathy as a complementary option alongside conventional treatments in multidisciplinary clinics and wellness centres.
Ongoing Debate and Balanced Use
Despite its popularity, homeopathy continues to be the subject of clinical debate, particularly regarding its evidence base. Critics question its empirical validation, while proponents highlight its low-risk profile, patient-centred approach, and supportive role in managing chronic conditions and overall wellbeing. Importantly, within India’s integrative healthcare framework, homeopathy is not promoted as a substitute for emergency or life-saving medical care.
From Alternative to Integral
Regulatory discussions—such as debates in states like Maharashtra around expanded prescribing rights for certified homeopaths—illustrate the ongoing negotiation between traditional medical systems and modern clinical standards.
In 2025, homeopathy in India is no longer an “alternative” conversation. It is firmly embedded within a growing integrative healthcare ecosystem, supported by market demand, institutional frameworks, public trust, and evolving patient expectations. As India continues to prioritise holistic and preventive health, homeopathy’s role within integrative medicine is set to expand further—not as a replacement, but as a complementary pillar of care.
