From May 17 to 23,
2025, China marks the 11th National Nutrition Week. This year’s
theme is “Balanced Diet and Exercise for a Healthy Weight, A
Nationwide Effort.”
To implement the goals
outlined in the “Healthy China Initiative (2019–2030)”
and the “National Nutrition Plan (2017–2030)”, and to
foster a social atmosphere that values and promotes nutritional
awareness and skills, the launch event of Beijing National Nutrition
Week—titled “Healthy Weight for Chronic Disease Prevention,
Mental Wellness for Health, and Nutrition Knowledge into
Communities”—was held on May 23 at JD.com Headquarters
Auditorium.
Officials from the Food
Safety Department of the National Health Commission, Beijing
Municipal Health Commission, Beijing Center for Disease Prevention
and Control, the China Health Care Association, the Beijing
Association of Preventive Medicine, as well as staff from municipal
and district CDCs, science communication experts from Peking
University People’s Hospital, representatives from JD Health, China
National Salt Industry Group (Jing-Jin-Ji region), and employees from
JD Health attended the event. The launch featured a ceremonial
opening, expert health lectures, and a “Nutrition Market”.
In her speech, Ms. Pang
Jiongqian, Level-3 Investigator of the Food Safety Department of the
National Health Commission, emphasized that this year’s theme is a
concrete action supporting the “Year of Healthy Weight Management”
campaign. Achieving balance between diet and exercise is key to
maintaining a healthy weight and preventing chronic diseases.
The person in charge of
the Food Division of the Beijing Municipal Health Commission reviewed
the 2024 National Nutrition Week activities in the city and outlined
key priorities for 2025.
JD Health shared its
efforts in promoting public health, and the China Salt Industry Group
(Jing-Jin-Ji) introduced initiatives advocating for the use of
low-sodium salt.
The China Health Care
Association presented the main plans and formats for the 2025
“Nutrition Knowledge into Communities” initiative, which will
include 100 nutrition science outreach events covering all 17
districts in Beijing. Activities will take place in communities,
rural areas, schools, supermarkets, and restaurants, with at least
three rural events planned per suburban district. Outreach efforts
will focus on publicizing the “Dietary Guidelines for Chinese
Residents (2022)”, the “Adult Obesity Dietary Guidance
(2024 Edition)”, and the “Guidelines on Dietary Management
for Overweight and Obese Children and Adolescents (2024 Edition)”.
Following the launch,
Dr. Liu Peng, Deputy Director of Medical Affairs and Director of
Clinical Nutrition at Peking University People’s Hospital, delivered
a keynote lecture titled “Scientific and Enjoyable Fat Reduction
for Physical and Mental Wellbeing”, giving an in-depth elaboration
on the weight management of overweight and obesity people from a
medical perspective. Drawing on the “Guidelines for the Medical
Nutritional Treatment of Overweight and Obesity in China (2021)”,
Dr. Liu offered an in-depth analysis of evidence-based weight loss
approaches by healthy diet including energy-restricted diets,
high-protein diets, low-carbohydrate diets, intermittent energy
restriction, and low-glycemic index foods, with the goal of
scientifically preventing and managing obesity and related chronic
conditions.
Additionally, the
“Nutrition Knowledge into Communities” program held a lively
“Youth Nutrition Market” at JD Headquarters, integrating science
education, hands-on activities, and interactive experiences. JD
employees actively participated in knowledge quizzes and fun check-in
games to learn practical nutrition tips. A special interactive zone
hosted by China Salt featured games and information on the benefits
of low-sodium salt.
With the successful
launch event, Beijing’s 2025 National Nutrition Week officially
commenced, igniting a new wave of public engagement around the
importance of nutrition.
